iPhone 16, Apple Watch, AirPods: Apple’s September 2024 Announcements.
As they do every year in September, Apple launched its new iPhone models on Monday, September 9, 2024. To our great surprise, not only were the new iPhone 16 models announced, but also several new Apple Watch and AirPods models. Here’s a summary of all the new releases.
Apple Watch 2024 Announcements
The Apple event on Monday opened with the announcement of the new Apple Watch Series 10. Sleeker and thinner than ever, it features the largest screen ever seen on an Apple Watch. Designed to be energy efficient, its wide-angle OLED display remains on even when the wrist is lowered, and it’s 40% brighter than previous models. A major new feature: you no longer need AirPods to listen to your favorite podcasts, as a speaker is now directly integrated into the watch case, a first for the Apple Watch.
Charging is incredibly fast: just 30 minutes to reach 80% battery, allowing you to wear it almost continuously.
This is particularly handy because a new health feature comes with this Apple Watch: it can now detect the early symptoms of sleep apnea (this feature is also available on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2).
For sports, the Apple Watch Series 10 stands out particularly for water activities thanks to its depth and water temperature measurement features.
In addition to the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple also unveiled new finishes for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, including a black version with new titanium bands and Hermès bands. New Sport bands are also available for the Apple Watch SE.
AirPods 2024 Announcements
Apple studied thousands of ears to design the new AirPods, ensuring they would fit the majority of users. The new AirPods 4 are therefore the most comfortable models ever created. Thanks to their sensors, you can nod to interact with Siri or accept/reject a call, for example. A button has also been added directly to the earbuds to pause or adjust the volume. For the first time, this model includes active noise cancellation.
These AirPods adapt to your environment by lowering the music when you’re on a call, adjusting the volume according to your listening mode, and activating Transparency mode when you need to hear what’s going on around you.
The AirPods Pro 2, already available, benefit from several improvements. They now offer hearing protection from loud ambient noises and can conduct a clinically approved hearing test, documented on your iPhone. Lastly, they can be used as hearing aids for people with hearing impairments.
The AirPods Max, meanwhile, are available in new colors and now come with a USB-C connection.
The new iPhone 16
After the announcement of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, it was expected that the new iPhone would integrate this major innovation. Available this fall in the U.S. and later in Europe, Apple Intelligence will seamlessly integrate into the iPhone 16 range.
Water and dust-resistant, the iPhone 16 is 50% more durable than its predecessors. With its A18 chip, it is 30% faster than the iPhone 15 and 60% faster than the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 16 now features a customizable action button, previously reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. Another practical new addition is the photo button: it allows you to take photos, zoom, adjust settings... You can also use it to search for information on Google or ChatGPT about the photo you just took. The two camera lenses are aligned vertically, and one of them is an ultra-wide-angle lens equivalent to four lenses.
The iPhone 16 Pro, on the other hand, comes with 4k120 technology, which will appeal to artists. The latest music video by The Weeknd was actually shot in slow motion using the iPhone 16 Pro. Finally, it’s the largest iPhone model ever created.
